A Day in Troy

On Saturday February 24, 2018, students from 42nd St Elementary and John Mack Elementary attended a USC Athletics community event.   A Day in Troy consisted of a tour of the USC campus, a pep talk, an autograph session, and a USC Women’s Basketball Game.  Austin, a football player, and James who is a part of the Golf program, were the campus tour guides. Academic Pentathlon and Decathlon Programs

With the support of Beyond the Bell, over 500 high school and 200 middle school students are sharpening their academic skills and knowledge by participating in the Academic Decathlon and Academic Pentathlon programs. Memorial Services for Harry Talbot

PDFHarry A. Talbot, Ed.D., Col. (Ret) Harry A. Talbot, Administrative Coordinator in the Beyond the Bell Branch,  passed away on Tuesday morning, January 30, 2018 in Carpinteria, California. He is survived by his brother Tom Talbot, a sister-in-law, a niece and a nephew in Texas.  Harry was a veteran having first joined the US Army in 1970 and retiring from the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 2004. Harry received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from San Jose State University, a Master of Arts ......

The Beyond the Bell Youth Development After-School Program recently participated in an official press conference announcing the Grand Opening of the new Charles White Elementary School Art Gallery.   The event occurred on Thursday, January 17, 2018 and was hosted in partnership with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). Social Emotional Learning During Out-of-School Time

During the final week of the Winter Recess, out-of-school time staff gathered together to develop a deeper understanding of Social Emotional Learning (SEL). The Los Angeles Conservation Corp After School Program participated in a “Heartset” training provided by Stu Semigran of Educare.  Also National University’s Sanford Harmony had trainers on hand for the Beyond the Bell before school program, Ready Set Go (RSG).  RSG committed to implementing the Sanford Harmony “Buddy Up and Meet Up” program......

46 and Counting!!

The LAUSD Beyond the Bell All District Honor Band celebrated its 46th annual appearance of marching in the Tournament of Roses Parade. The band is comprised of dedicated LAUSD High School students who give up all of but two days of their winter break to learn music, marching and teamwork.
