AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
The after school Migrant Education Program at San Fernando Elementary School began with an electrifying start! The students in grades K-5 had the opportunity to learn about the Presidential Elections (2016).
Their unit of study included activities in history, reading, English Language Development, and math. Lessons were designed to develop skills in writing, oral language, and critical thinking. Students were given the opportunity to participate in the democratic process by being informed about candidates, issues, and their responsibility to vote in every election.
The excitement of the elections and the television coverage was a great motivator for teacher and student participation and involvement!
When Sophia, a kindergartner was asked, “What should the President be like?” She said, “She should be nice.” Another student, Oscar, said, “He should like all of us and help my papa.”
