High School 2017 Summer Term

This year 72 high schools will be open for the Summer Term which will be held from Thursday, June 22, 2017 through Thursday, July 27, 2017. Classes will be held daily from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  To be eligible, students must a) be enrolled in a Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) high school during the 2017 spring semester and b) need to recover credits for a D or F grade they received in high school.  Eligible students may enroll in up to two courses during the Summer Term.

A Top Priority

One of Superintendent Michelle King’s top priorities is making sure every student graduates.  The Superintendent has asked for “all hands on deck” to support the closing of the graduation gap.  State and District guidelines for graduation require students to complete required course credits.  Accordingly, each high school has identified and organized students that are in need of additional credits for graduation.

Support Services

In summer 2017, schools will receive additional resources to support student success. Schools will be allocated a fulltime counselor for the duration of the Summer Term.  Teacher Leaders will support the instructional program by facilitating professional development and/or Common Planning Time for teachers and by modeling strategies in classrooms.

Transportation during the 2017 Summer Term will not be available.  However, students may attend any high school that is geographically convenient.  Families in each Local District will have multiple school sites from which to choose.
