Principals Prepare for Summer School Sessions

The Academic Unit of Beyond the Bell is busy providing assistance to administrators that have been chosen to operate academic programs during the summer at schools throughout LAUSD.  Summer administrators attend special trainings designed to support them in successfully implementing intervention, credit recovery, and academic enrichment programs in June and July.  These BTB supported programs will enroll over 50,000 students.  When combined, these academic programs could be counted as the 10th largest school district in California,  just in the summer alone.
Professional development topics for summer principals include instructional excellence, mastery learning and grading, curriculum development, emergency operations, staffing protocols, attendance accounting, school wide security and much more.  Elementary and Middle School student programs focus on English language arts and mathematics, but also include character development and enrichment field trips.  High School students may work towards graduation by building English fluency skills, retaking a failed course, or taking a new course for credit.  A common goal across all grades and programs is “Student Success”.
Enrollment in district summer programs is restricted.  Not all students are eligible to attend.  To find a list of LAUSD schools offering a variety of summer programs, please visit www.btb.lausd.net .  For more specific information about a program, please contact the school.
