Albion Elementary Ices First Place Street Hockey Tournament
Albion elementary school students look forward to the weeks when the LA Kings Chariot comes to their school. And this year, the students skated away with a first place finish in Beyond the Bell’s 5th annual Street Hockey Tournament. As part of a six week traveling sports program, students learn the rules and practice the skills of street hockey in preparation for a culminating competition. This year, Albion bested twenty-one other schools in the fast paced single elimination tournament that was held at 28th Street Elementary School. Each round consisted of two six minute halves full of swift twists and sure shots. After five furious rounds, Albion students were victorious earning the First Place finish!
Beyond the Bell has successfully partnered with the LA Kings to introduce and promote the sport of hockey in LAUSD since 2012. Students enjoy the quick and exciting sportsmanship of the game of hockey in addition to the incentives and complimentary gifts that the LA Kings bring to the games.
During the tournament the LA Kings’ ICE Crew provided an inflatable “Puck Shoot” for the students during intermissions and pizza from Papa John’s that they thoroughly enjoyed. Each student received an LA Kings t-shirt, fully stocked pencil case, and a choice of a bracelet, soft hockey puck, mini plastic hockey stick or pen. The ICE Crew even posed for memento photographs with the students.
Congratulations to Albion ES students that were fire on ice!
