“It was good” according to Owen who is an elementary student at 32nd Street Magnet School in Downtown Los Angeles. He enjoyed his first day. His big sister Elizabeth is also a student at 32nd Street. She’s getting accustomed to middle school and having five teachers a day. Edwin, their dad said, “This program helps us out a lot,” as he enrolled both of them in the Beyond the Bell YS Plus after school program. Many parents like Edwin rely on after school programs to provide a safe place for their children after school.
||Rita, the Site Coordiantor for the Beyond the Bell Program at 32nd Street, was the dance coach there last year and is happy to be back at school.
Lilliana is responsible for the after school “Learning Zone” that has a room for the students to study after school.
Beyond the Bell after school programs typically have three components: 1) academic, 2) recreation, and 3) enrichment. Programming varies from school to school. All Beyond the Bell after school programs offer a place and time for students to complete their homework. They also provide fun recreational sports activities and enrichment activities which include dance or art.
