The 10th Annual Beyond The Bell Liberty Mutual Golf Classic was successfully held at the Oakmont Country Club in Glendale, California, on November 13th.  In addition to celebrity emcee Nick Cannon, over 175 golfers and sponsors were in attendance showing their support for LAUSD students in afterschool programs.

Beyond the Bell (BTB) volunteers and staff greeted guests bright and early Monday morning for a fun day on the course.  Guests were treated to a continental breakfast before warming up on the practice range.  Every golfer received a “swag bag” from key event sponsors H2 Group SHAKTI Warrior Healthy Heroes and the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company.  Gifts for golfers included a backpack, computer carry bag, golf shirt, club covers, and an assortment of golf accessories.

Alvaro Cortés, BTB Executive Director, formally opened the morning event with a short program honoring veterans and Veterans Day.  The Los Angeles School Police Honor Guard presented the national flag while BTB Music Entertainment Education Coordinator Tony White performed a saxophone solo of the national anthem.  Music and television celebrity Nick Cannon warmly greeted the golfers and provided words of appreciation for supporting the event.

After completing their scramble round of golf, participants were treated to a reception on the terrace featuring the young guitarist, Roy Goren. Supporters were able to bid on BTB silent auction items and purchase raffle tickets while enjoying music and hors d'oeuvres before a banquet dinner.

The awards banquet began by recognizing Renata Simril, President and CEO of LA84, who received the Beyond the Bell Generosity, Resilience, Integrity, and Tenacity “GRIT” Award.  Ms. Simril spoke from her own personal experience of the importance and positive impact of after school programs on the lives of youth.  Nick Cannon emceed the banquet and encouraged those in attendance to make personal donations to further support after school programs.  Victor Gonzalez of BTB hosted a lively live auction and winning foursomes and individual golfers received prizes for their play.  As a fitting ending to the day, singer-songwriter MAJOR. performed his hit song Why I Love You, a soulful song of thanks to all the sponsors, donors, and supporters.
