On Saturday February 24, 2018, students from 42nd St Elementary and John Mack Elementary attended a USC Athletics community event. A Day in Troy consisted of a tour of the USC campus, a pep talk, an autograph session, and a USC Women’s Basketball Game. Austin, a football player, and James who is a part of the Golf program, were the campus tour guides. They led us throughout the USC campus and the students were introduced to great locations that are rich in history.
Students visited: the Annenberg School of Communication, Tutor Hall, the Nadine and William Tilley Football All-American Walk, and the Hall of Champions. Students were also given a tour of the newly remodeled weight room and locker room. Just like physical education at their school, students learned that USC has physical education programs for their students to stay fit, too. Students saw two gyms for basketball, volleyball, dance rooms, and an indoor swimming pool.
||After the tour the students ate lunch and headed over to the Galen Center where they were treated to a motivational message by, Dj Malski who leads the Educational Serving Community through Outreach, Recreation, and Education (S.C.O.R.E) Initiative. The message focused on education, good citizenship, being a team player, and physical fitness. The students also had the opportunity to win prizes based on the information they learned. The students participated in a USC fan fest where they played games, received USC posters and met USC athletes. Students collected autographs and took pictures with the athletes.
For the final event everyone enjoyed a Women’s USC basketball game against Colorado State. Students watched in amazement as the Women of Troy beat the Colorado Buffaloes!
