LAUSD Decathlon Teams at the Top Again

El Camino Real

Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) wins again!  For the 9th year in a row an LAUSD school has outscored all other regional front runners to become California’s 2018 Academic Decathlon State Champions.  El Camino Real Charter High School topped the charts with a total score of 61,612.40 at the annual competition.  Granada Hills Charter High School placed a close second with a score of 60,949.20.  In fourth place from LAUSD was Franklin Senior High School with a score of 57,737.40.

Looking beyond these tops scores there are additional accomplishments worth noting.  LAUSD’s Bell High School improved their regional score sufficiently to move from Division II to Division I.  They finished this year’s state competition with a score 10,000 points greater than last year.  North Hollywood also stepped up in state Divisions, moving from division III to II while increasing their score by more than 6,000 points.

Garfield High competed in Division 1 with a significant increase in their team score.

Van Nuys High School made tremendous strides in Division II moving their score over 9,000 points which moved them from 15th place last year to 3rd place this year.  Additionally, for 2 schools, Valley Academic of Arts and Sciences and Chatsworth High School this year marked the first time they had an Academic Decathlon team invited to the state competition.

Congratulations to all the decathletes!
