PENTATHLON NATIONAL ONLINE TEAM COMPETITION

The United States Academic Pentathlon (USAP) held two national-level competitions this year. The Virtual National Competition gathered the states’ highest scoring 7th and 8th grade teams to crown the official Pentathlon National Champion. Congratulations to Fairmont Historic Anaheim (20,518.80 points) and Arborland Montessori (18,266.30 points) for winning the California Pentathlon Competition and representing the state at the Virtual National Competition.

The Online National Competition gave teams who did not qualify for the Virtual Competition the opportunity to compete against other states’ teams and measure their skills. Congratulations to Burroughs Middle School, Sepulveda Middle School, Revere Charter Middle School, Millikan Affiliated Charter Middle School, Lake Balboa College Prep, and Young Oak Kim Academy for their participation.

Also, special mentions go to Hillary Tong from Burroughs Middle School for placing first in the Honors category of the 8th grade competition with 3,919.51 points, and Naomi Goldman from Millikan Affiliated Charter Middle School for placing third in the Scholastic 8th grade competition with 2,670.93 points.

what is academic pentathlon?

Academic Pentathlon is an exciting five-event competition for students in grades 6, 7 and 8. The program engages students of all achievement levels in a variety of challenging academic events, while also preparing them to participate in Academic Decathlon.

Under the guidance of an adult coach, teams of students prepare for competition in subject areas of fine arts (art and music), literature (including essay analysis), math, science, and social science.

Next year’s topic was just announced as Water: A Most Essential Resource. Signing up early allows schools to plan ahead their budgeting for instructional materials and staffing, recruit students and coaches, as well as determine meeting times.

Middle schools who are interested qualify for free curriculum, resources, competition registration, and Beyond the Bell support. If interested, please fill out the Intent to Participate form.

For Students and Parents who would like to sign up for the Academic Pentathlon team at your school, please fill out our Student Sign-up Form.
