Summer 2020

Extended Learning Opportunity Summer Program for Elementary and Middle Schools (k-8)

  • The ELOS program is designed to provide supplemental instruction in core subject areas for students in grades K-8 that are not meeting grade level standards at eligible participating schools based on priority of need.
  • The ELOS instructional program for students will operate from June 24, 2020 to July 22, 2020. Classes provide 3.5 hours of daily instruction for
    20 days. In celebration of the Independence Day Holiday, there will be no school on Friday, July 3, 2020.
  • Student hours 8:00 a.m. - 11:50 a.m. Students will be provided either a 20-minute recess break or Community Feed brunch meal during the instructional day.
  • Only LAUSD students currently enrolled during the spring semester at a participating school, in Grades K-5/6, may be considered eligible to
    attend ELOS at that school. Eligible matriculating students entering Grade 6/7 at a participating middle school may enroll in ELOS at that middle school.

High school Summer Term

  • The High School 2020 Summer Term provides high school credit recovery at selected sites.
  • The High School 2020 Summer Term will be held for 24 days from Wednesday, June 24, 2020 through Tuesday, July 28, 2020. Student hours are 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and include a 30-minute nutrition break.
  • Summer Term schools will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2020 in observance of the Independence Day holiday.
  • Students have the opportunity to enroll in up to two courses.

Literacy Pro and F.I.R.S.T.

Find out how your child’s participation in either Literacy Pro (Grades 3rd – 8th) or F.I.R.S.T. (Grades K-2) can support your child’s in growth in language arts and provide them with literature experiences which will build their vocabulary. All 3rd – 8th grade students will first be guided to take a self-assessment which will determine the literature which will best support their growth.  Further information can be found in the  Grades 3-8 Letters.
